acml-4.0.1 with -Wl,--as-needed needs gfortran

Discussion created by seb@ist.utl.pt on Dec 19, 2007
This simple bit of program atest.c

--
char sgemm_ ();
int main () { return sgemm_ (); }
--

compiles fine with:

gcc atest.c -L/opt/acml4.0.1/gfortran64_mp/lib -lacml -lgfortran

but does not compile with:

gcc -Wl,--as-needed atest.c -L/opt/acml4.0.1/gfortran64_mp/lib -lacml -lgfortran

I think a possible reason acml.so should have been linked with -lgfortran intrinsically.
Do you also experiment this problem?
