I'm just curious why AMD doesn't support this presentation mode in it's  drivers. It  seems like it would be useful for games and I would like to be able to use it on AMD cards.

Wouldn't you get the same result using FIFO with a queue size of 1?

no it wouldn't. lets say you have a picture swapchain with the size of 3 (your screen takes the latest picture and displays it). In mailbox mode the third picture will now be replaced if your program is faster than your display (result: your Program is as fast as it can be). In fifo mode your Program waits until slot 3 is empty again, so it is only as fast as your screen
