Repeated Random Black Screens when gaming [Radeon VII]

Question asked by berserker55 on Aug 10, 2020

So, this started happening about a month ago; I first noticed it in the Starcraft 2 Anniversary update where when playing my computer would apparently crash, but audio would continue for a while. I then had to restart entirely. In trying to fix this, I updated my driver from 20.4.2 to I believe 20.7.2; which did not fix the issue. However, now it recovers after a moment, where my screens come back, the game recovers and resets my DC counter. Some windows are empty shells that I can look through after such a recovery, for example the battle.net application. These black screens occur in various games, some games can recover and continue, most games break in some way. I'm now on 20.8.1 and the issue persists.

Today, for the first time radeonsoftware itself refuses to open. I found this in the eventlog:

Other Hardware:

ASRock TRX 40 Taichi @ Version 1.6

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3970X

4 X 16 GB RAM @ 3200 MHz

3 Monitors, all through Displayport (2X1440p, 1X1080p; @60hz). The HDMI is sometimes used by a Valve Index, but I tried with and without it connected and it doesn't appear to matter.
