RX 470HDR support only through displayport?

GPU: MSI Gaming Radeon RX 470 GDDR5 4GB

TV: Samsung Series 8 RU8000 55" 4K UHD LED TV

Bought a new UHD 4K TV, it's still on it's way. Planning to connect it my desktop to watch 4K HDR movie.

I looked at the RX 470 page

470hdr.JPG

It says RX 470 supports HDR, but it only says displayport is hdr ready.

Does that mean if I want to use HDR I have to use displayport?

If so, my TV doesn't have displayport, it only have hdmi. Will a displayport to hdmi cable solve the issue?

Cheers

if you use the DP to HDMI make sure you get one that supports 4K as some old cables are stuck at 1080p

HDMI 2.0 can support 4K but many televisions are not happy with video card feeds.

By the way, Your Samsung TV has a fairly new Firmware update: 2019 UHD Smart TV (RU8000) | Owner Information & Support | Samsung US

Your Manual doesn't explain about HDR on your TV but found this website that explains how HDR works in your Samsung RU8000 models: Samsung RU8000 Calibration Settings - RTINGS.com
