DXGI Adapter and switchable graphics

I have a laptop with switchable graphics set to Based on Power Source by default.
In my DirectX application I explicitly choose the DXGI adapter that will be used for rendering.
However, the actual working adapter still depends on the "heaviness" of the graphics.
Does this work as expected? If so, is there any way to REALY choose graphics adapter in my app without modifying Radeon settings?
