970/SB950 - Maintaining RAID integrity while upgrading motherboard

Question asked by mattmill30 on Sep 2, 2019

I'm planning to upgrade my Gigabyte 970A-DS3P Rev. 1.0 motherboard, because I need an additional SATA port.

I currently have a 4 disks in a RAID 5 configuration.

Can anyone confirm whether it is possible to upgrade motherboards, whilst retaining RAID integrity?

What restrictions would apply? e.g. same manufacturer, same northbridge, or only same south bridge?

The motherboard is 970/SB950, but there are no 7+ SATA boards with the same northbridge, only 990X/SB950 and 990FX/SB950.

Can anyone confirm whether any of these boards would be compatible with the current RAID?
