I wish to create a RAID-1 mirror using 2x 2TB WD Black SATA3 HDDs, numbered #WD36 & #WD37.
#WD36 already has data on it from my previous system, which utilised 2x 1TB WD Black SATA3 HDDs.
#WD37 is currently formatted & blank.
I have quite a high skill level with PC H/W & S/W, but not a lot of experience with RAID, beyond creating a RAID-1 setup.
I am using Windows 7 Pro and I have included my Hardware signature at the end of this Post.
BTW, if you are wondering why I am using an old HDD, it is because I have had problems Cloning to & Booting off the 850 Pro SSD. I am performing a 3-Step migration from temporary HDD to interim SSD, to M.2 NVME SSD, due to the fact that I am using Win7. I had to 1st learn how Win7 manages NVME SSD's.
I have only ever used Intel RAID-1 previously & had this very issue then.
I can't remember how I got around it, but had more empty drives then & far more SATA ports (only 6x now).
Can I create RAID-1 from the existing Data HDD, #WD36, using the AMD X470 Chipset?
If so, would one method be to:_
- Set BIOS to RAID (currently AHCI), with Data HDD #WD36 installed but unRAIDed?
- Then REBUILD RAID-1 using 2nd, empty HDD, #WD37?
Will this work?
Is there a better way?
