Adrenalin 2019 19.5.1 Rapid mouse movement not limited to Chill_Min.

Question asked by colesdav on May 21, 2019

Adrenalin 2019 19.5.1 Rapid mouse movement not limited to Chill_Min.
Rapid mouse movement is allowing FPS (and therefore GPU Power) to rise up to Global Frame Rate Target Control value or unlimited FPS. This causes more GPU Power to be used which limits the value of using Chill in games like BFV.

Change was added in early Adrenalin 2019 release to limit rapid mouse movement to Chill_Min.

DDU in safe mode disconnected from the Internet plus clean install of Adrenalin 2019 19.5.1. reboot then connect to Internet and launch BFV or other game.

Tested with BFV DX12 and DX11 at 4K Ultra, BF1 DX12 and DX11 , TitanFall 2 DX11 and other games that work with Chill. I have been testing in Full Screen Mode.  Chill is set up and activated at game launch.

Sometimes after careful DDU install Rapid Mouse Movement will be limited to Chill_Min, but sometimes it will not.
Sometimes a further incremental install of Adrenalin 2019 19.5.1 will fix the issue, sometimes it will not.

If someone in AMD does investigate the issue and finds the problem, please add a selector button or provide a method to allow users to select between the two modes of operation for rapid mouse movement versus Chill_Min.

I file an AMD Reporting Form next.

Please consider exposing internal Chill variables to users, so that certain keyboard combinations could be omitted from Chill Ramping up from Chill Min, allow users to change max keyboard only input fps etc. It would make Chill more worthwhile and usable. AMD users could make their own Chill Profiles available to others.

In BFV at 4K Ultra for example, using rifle scope pressing right mouse button ramps up FPS from ~ 30 to 52 FPS and the power consumption shoot up > 250Watts. That's with no other "in game activity" and looking at a wall.

If anyone else is using Chill asnd sees this behavior please file an AMD Reporting form. It is also happening on my R9 FuryX/Fury/Nano GPU's and on earlier Adrenalin 2019 versions.

Thanks.
