I have Alienware 18

X2 R9 M290X ( also known as HD 8970?)

Intel i7 4810mq

Windows 10 64 bit

16 Gigs of Ram

I have recently tried to install the latest graphics drivers, it installs half way and the screen goes black. I can still hear background noise. I have to reset my computer, goes into safemode, etc. Eventually I end up reformatting. I have done this about 5 times, the most recent one today. use 18.3.4 driver but radeon settings wont work

I have looked online for solutions and have tried all of them. I even tried Gurus driver uninstall, no such luck. Windows does not automatically update the drivers for me when I ask it to do so. I've tried automatic driver install from AMD- even manually installing (I tired R9 2xx series, even HD 8970) no luck. Can someone help?

I have a similar issue but with a HD 7870. When ever I upgrade the drivers the screen goes blank.

After I reboot, POST etc displays okay, it shows the windows loading circle thing for a few seconds then blank again..

I have to boot into safe mode and rollback to the Microsoft default display drivers and it works okay.

Obviously no good for gaming tho...

I think there has been some incompatibility introduced with a recent update to windows 10.
