Vega 56 Freezing/ Minimising (Display Driver Crashing?)

Question asked by on Sep 28, 2018
  • Vega 56 Reference
  • Desktop
  • Windows 10 64bit (up to date)
  • Driver version 18.9.3 (issues present on previous drivers)
  • Display Device- ASUS MG279Q 27 inch IPS Gaming Monitor @144Hz Mini DP
  • Unknown Motherboard
  • Intel i5 3470 CPU
  • Corsair Vs 650watt Power Supply
  • 8GB RAM

Display freezes/ appears to rest via black screen infrequently when in desktop/ browsing/ video playback etc.

Games frequently freeze and minimise; they will often briefly restore before freezing and minimising again or they may crash

Most recently tested games were Vanquish, DOOM (2016) and Painkiller all at 1440p though this seems to effect all games.

Issues were not present with previous Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB

Task manager reports a '3D' spike during desktop crashing

Edit: limiting the FPS to 150 via Radeon settings target control seems to reduce the minimising frequency, though these are replaced by more standard freezes and hitching.

Similar issues seem to arise from a bad overclock from what i've read but my card has not been overclocked
