Secure Memory Encryption SME on Ryzen 5 (mobile) !?

Question asked by das_linux on Mar 1, 2018

Hi there,

I have a Ryzen 5 mobile, precisely Ryzen 5 2500U.

When looking at the output of lscpu I noticed that little sme CPU flag.

Very interesting! sme flag is Secure Memory Encryption.

I thought SME is only available for enterprise CPUs?

Is SME actually usable on Ryzen 5 (mobile)?

I once enabled SME on a kernel 4.15.something, but my machine froze, did not boot with sme enabled.

Thanks!
