I am currently using a Radeon HD 7870 with 6 ports to drive 5 monitors (4 are quad HD). I have a spare HD 7770. I have heard that multiple GPUs will actually hurt performance if you are not taking advantage of the extra power. I am not doing anything graphically intensive other than driving a lot of pixels and heavy multitasking. I do not use Eyefinity. Will I benefit from adding the 7770 to my rig and moving two of the monitors to it?
In case it matters, other components:
- CPU: i7 3770 @ 3.4GHz
- Mem: 12GB DDR3 1600 CL9
- MB: Asus P8Z77 WS
- PSU: High-quality 750W
+ 7870 has 2GB of GDDR5 and 7770 has 1GB
(basically, everything was high-end back in 2013)
no it wont your better of with a singe dedicated card crossfire support will be dwindleing over the years. For preformance & & monitor wise tyour better off with a singe card. Even better to buy a new gen beefier card to benefit from it. No point in crossfire & multipul card configurations when a decnt card will have the same effect.
