installing 17.12.1 driver for A10 APU R8 m445dx failed on hdmi

    amduserabuser

so initially i tried installing the graphics driver and got the r7 340 driver instead. so i got the stock driver from HP and it was back to R8 drivers. Then I got the APU driver and it errors on installing HMDI driver. It also show the r7 m340. so it's not recognizing the APU on install no matter what? Do we just have to stick with stock drivers? GTAV is missing textures constantly.

You posted a lot of technical information except the information that is important - your computer specs. Is your computer a Laptop or Desktop (exact Make and Model of laptop)?

What Windows OS Version do you have installed. What current AMD driver set do you have installed?  Make and model of MoBo, CPU/APU, PSU. etc.

Troubleshooting procedures that you tried to resolve the issue that you post about.

Found this link that will be of interest to you concerning your APU : AMD Radeon R8 M445DX vs AMD Radeon R8 M365DX

This from the above mentioned link:

          AMD Radeon R8 M445DX

          ► removeAMD Radeon R8 M445DX

The AMD Radeon R8 M445DX is a Dual Graphics combination of the integrated Radeon R5 (Bristol Ridge, e.g. in the A10-9600P) and a dedicated Radeon R7 M440 graphics card. It was introduced in mid 2016 for entry level multimedia laptops. The R8 M445DX runs both cards in hybrid crossfire mode and renders games in AFR mode (alternate frame rendering) that renders a frame alternately on each card. Therefore, the Dual Graphics needs driver profiles for each DX 11 game to work properly and often suffers from micro stuttering.

The Radeon R6 features 384, the Radeon R7 M440 320 shader cores, both based on the GCN architecture. Technical details on each card and benchmarks can be found on their GPU pages.

In our gaming tests, the performance of the Dual Graphics combination depends on the driver support. Except 3DMark benchmarks however, we saw nearly no game that could profit from the Crossfire combination with the launch drivers. Currently, buyers should only see the R8 M445DX as a single R7 M440.

In idle the dedicated GPU is shut down to save power and only the integrated R5 is running. Running together, the power consumption of both cards are combined (5-10 + 20-25 Watt).

According to the above link, you must have a A10-9600p APU Chip. If not please post your EXACT Laptop Model and Make to determine exactly what type of APU you have and Discrete GPU card.

Installing the newest APU driver from AMD removes the R8 display adapter and uses it as the R7 m340 and apparently fails to install hdmi. The stock driver works mostly alright, but somethings like GTA V have severe texture drops. Was hoping it was fixed in newer versions, but they don't appear to work. Hope that's enough to go on.

Went to HP Support and found the drivers  for your HP laptop. If this is the correct Model, download all the latest drivers and reinstall them and see if your Laptop GPU is being indicated correctly. Your laptop should only be using HP authorize custom drivers. AMD laptop drivers don't take into account any special features added to the laptop, so they may work correctly and may not. Here is a copy from that HP Support:

Yea, those are what I'm using, but they are old. I'm trying to use the latest AMD APU drivers for laptops with AMD hardware with my laptop having AMD hardware. So what you're saying is the AMD laptop APU drivers are useless and I have to wait for HP to come around and adapt AMD drivers for their notebook? What good are AMD's laptop drivers if end users cannot use them? Do AMD branded laptops exist?

You can try using the Generic AMD laptop drivers. They may or may not work correctly on your laptop. The point I am saying is that Laptops are customized by the manufacturer in using the AMD GPU chip. The laptop was made to work under customize OEM drivers to prevent overheating or power issues. Generic AMD drivers MAY NOT take the laptop's specs on heat and power usage. Best bet is to contact the Laptop's manufacturer's Support and ask them if AMD generic Laptop drivers can used. From what I have read in other Forums, if you use generic NON-OEM drivers on your laptop, the manufacturer may VOID your warranty if the laptop is under  warranty.

where do you take that information from, doesnt make any sence... what warranty has to do with what you use your pc for?

At Nvidia Forum, there is a poster that used to work for a manufacturer of Laptops. He was in charge of repairs for the manufacturer. He is the one that says that many if not most of the Laptop manufacturers would void the warranty of a laptop if the user installs a non-oem driver that caused the laptop to fail. Plus if you bothered to read the Warranty on the laptop it mentions about using 3rd party software or drivers.

If you turn in a laptop, he suggest to delete the generic driver and install the original OEM driver before turning it in.

You do realize that Manufacturer customize the laptop's GPU chip to their own specs. That is why the Manufacturer has it own Customized drivers for the laptop. To prevent overheating or power issues that can damage it. Generic AMD/Nvidia drivers don't take into account the customization of the laptop's specs for Heat and Power. So, if you use a non-OEM driver and the laptop for some reason is damaged. The Manufacturer is going to use that as an excuse for not repairing your laptop under warranty.

I have research about the warranty. Many say it won't void it, but then again, they don't seem to work for a laptop manufacturer. Also I have read that OEM manufacturer give input to AMD/Nvidia/Intel so that their laptops are able to use generic drivers. But the generic drivers may not be as efficient as the OEM drivers for the laptop.

Update: Called Asus Support about using Non-oem (generic) drivers in laptops. The person I spoke with says that if the Laptop was damaged due to the generic driver it will not be covered under warranty. He says that is pretty standard with the other manufacturers of laptops.

OMFG so I tried contacting HP about this. First off, the driver you linked to, downloads up to 70% and then stops. They say it's my computers fault and I need to sign up for software support service for 14.95 a month and they can help me with printers. Also if I want new drivers that include the Vulkan API I need a service for 14.95 a month and they can help me with printers. I mean this is the cheapest dedicated graphics laptop currently, but to not even have the features included function properly is terrible and they want to charge me extra so they can attempt to fix it's lack of functionality. I know you get what you pay for, but never expect HP to deliver is all I'm saying. cool. I'm out.

Are you saying that you have to pay a monthly fee to download drivers  for your laptop from HP? That is why, when you tried to download the driver to fix you ID  of your HP laptop GPU it only downloaded 70% because you don't have a contract with HP?

This is the first time I have heard that a computer manufacturer has some sort of subscription plan to keep your computer updated.

If this is true, I sure won't be purchasing any HP products in the future as far a computer systems are concerned.

Apparently, I can't even report software issues to them unless I pay them a monthly service fee. I told him his company is a scam and hung up. Tried every which way I can to install a correct driver and I have nothing. Just have to stick with the OEM and play DOOM with OpenGL and live with GTA V dropping textures constantly I guess. Kinda bugs me since this thing costs about as much as a PS4 Pro, but for a laptop it's cheap.

Update, HP confirms the r8 m445dx will be recognized as m340 but will function the same(not 100% on that). AMD really should fix the GPUID in the driver. Got vulkan working with Doom and Talos Principal. You have to add a registry entry for every game to run in high process priority. Example reg key below. It fixes GTAV missing textures and boosts just about every games fps.

                                [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\Game.exe\PerfOptions]

                                "CpuPriorityClass"=dword:00000003
