How can I expand a RAID 1 logical drive?

Question asked by rjf7r on Dec 7, 2017

I have been using RAIDXpert (its opening page says 3.3.1540.24, Build Date: May. 31, 2012, even though the installer is "amd-catalyst-15.7.1-raidxpert-utility-win10-win8.1-win7.exe") for three years to maintain a logical drive that is RAID 1 consisting of two 3TB drives.  I now need more space, and from looking at the Help supplied by RAIDXpert, it seemed as if I could add a 3TB drive and migrate the array to RAID 5.  However, the RAIDXpert web UI only offers migration of this RAID 1 pair to RAID 0, not RAID 5.

Should I be able to do such a migration?  Is there any more documentation of RAIDXpert or AMD on-board RAID?

Essentially, I need a larger fault-tolerant logical drive than I have now with the RAID 1 pair.

The system has a ASUS A55BM-PLUS motherboard, an AMD A8-5500 processor, 8GB ram, and Windows 8.1 Pro.
