DisplayPort link failure when waking monitor

Question asked by derik72090 on Nov 12, 2017

Here's my build: https://pcpartpicker.com/b/zBD2FT

Using a Sapphire R9 Fury Nitro..I just upgraded my monitor to an MSI Optix G27c. 1080p with Freesync @ 144Hz connected via DisplayPort cable. Using my old monitor (Acer LED 1080p monitor) connected via DVI cable as the second monitor.

Every time my monitor turns off (not sleep), and I wake it up with my mouse or keyboard, I get this notification:(https://i.imgur.com/CBDV7EE.png)

"The system has detected a link failure and cannot set the requested resolution and refresh rate. Your display might not support the requested resolution or there may be an issue with the cable connecting the display to your computer."

I'm not having any issues with the monitor itself or when playing games as the refresh rate and resolution seem to stay the same. The constant notifications are what annoys me and it also makes me wonder if there is a hardware issue.

Yes my GPU driver is up to date, and yes I've already tried re-installing the driver. I'm using the DisplayPort cable that came with the monitor. The only other thing I think I can try is buying a new DP cable but wanted to know if there's anything else I can try before going that route.
