for me work
type ctrl-alt-F2 and login to uninstall and reinstall driver
Thank you very much it worked
I am going to post you answer in the Ubuntu forum where I first Asked the question
again thank you
I'm having version similar issues with RX480. I'm still learning linux. When do you type ctrl-alt-f2? At the blank screen?
Before enabling HWE, with
the driver 17.40 would fail, but the screen would not be blank and I can drop to terminal I think with ctrl-alt-f1. Last version I got working was 17.10 w/o HWE (I think 4.4). I hoping this helps me.
If you have a blank screen you can login by type ctrl-alt-F1 (or F2-F3 etc. until F6) in a terminal and you type your username and psw.
Here you can type
to upgrade the kernel at 4.10
and the driver run correctly (I hope for you :-) )
You can alway run a terminal with ctrl-alt-F1-to F6, ctrl-alt-F7 to come back in desktop
No love. Looks like 17.30 and 17.40 doesn't working with my Ubuntu 16.04.3. I even had to clean install after the initial issue since I got not video even after uninstalling 17.40.492261. This process has much room for improvement, and I can't keep having issues with the graphics.
Running the below, Ubuntu tells me it's been updated to latest.
sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-generic-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-hwe-16.04
Last AMD driver version that worked for me was 17.10 (forgot the build). I wish AMD had a place to get the old drivers or even what the switches are used for the command line install. The "-y" in the below gave me an unrecognized error. I might have to give up on Ubuntu and just use Windows 10.
4.10.0-38 kernel doesn't work with 17.40.492261 with rx480 it seems. In recovery, using 4.10.0-28 kernel, it looks to be working fine. can't wait for the next driver version.
