2048 x 1152 instead of 2560 x 1440?

Question asked by chrispop on Oct 5, 2017

I have an AMD Radeon R9 200 Series graphics card. Output are one (1) HDMI, one (1) Display Port and two (2) DVI. I have three monitors; one (1) Dell 21:9 U3417 running 3440 x 1440 and two (2) Dell U2525Hs.

The U3417 and one of the U2515Hs run perfect. One is hooked to the Display Port and the other to the HDMI. However, the second U2525H is connected to the DVI output via DVI to HDMI cable.

The second U2515H looks like crud. The color is muted and the text isn't as sharp as the other. The really strange thing is that the resolution in Display Manager shows 2048 x 1152. If I go into the AMD Radeon Settings, I've tried turning off GPU scaling as well Preservie aspect ratio. As soon as I turn on the GPU scaling, it only show available resolution of 1920 x 1080.

Simple question is the DVI to HDMI cable part of my problem? Or is the card just limited to running only two monitors at higher resolutions? I get the feeling I'll be buying a new graphics card. If I go that route, would the 1060, 1070 or 1080 be the better card? I don't game at all, I mainly work on business apps but do some illustration and 3 modeling.

Anyone have an idea what the hell I'm doing wrong? The second U2525H should be much sharper than it's showing.
