When I try to play several different Valve games (Half-Life 2, HL2 Ep. 1, HL2 Ep. 2, and Portal), they open to a blank white screen, then immediately crash to desktop with the error message "HL2.exe has stopped working". All other games I've played on my system are fully functional. I've already tried the following troubleshooting steps:
-run as admin
-run with compatibility modes (7 and XP)
-uninstall and reinstall drivers
-verify integrity of game files on Steam
-uninstall and reinstall games
-run with -autoconfig and other launch options
-disable antivirus and firewall
None of these had any effect.
I also ran RAM, HDD, and system file check tests, but they found no errors.
I've noticed that when I boot Windows in safe mode, I can open the games, but they run at a very low framerate.
This is what I found in event viewer for the HL2 crash:
"Faulting module name: ddraw.dll_unloaded, version: 10.0. 15063.0, time stamp: 0xeca5f2bf"
"Faulting module name: stdshader_dx9.dll, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x5375047e"
If you have any ideas, let me know. Thanks.
