Black Screen While Playing Games

Question asked by hioctave on Aug 16, 2017

As of yesterday my computer has been crashing to a black screen while playing video games and can only be fixed by hard reset. The problem started appearing after daily crashes of DX11 in FFXIV, I don't know if this began to take a toll on my GPU or not. I've tried multiple solutions such as cleaning out fans of the GPU/CPU, reapplying thermal paste, switching PCI ports, downgrading drivers, etc. but nothing seems to work.  I'm out of ideas and would like to ask the forums before investing in a new GPU. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

My specs are:

  • GPU: MSI R9 380 2G
  • OS: Windows 10 64bit
  • Driver:  Radeon Software Crimson ReLive Edition 17.7.2
  • Display: Acer G227HQL
  • Mobo: ASROCK Fatal1ty Z97 Killer; American Megatrends Inc. P2.20, 5/12/2015
  • CPU: Intel Xeon
  • PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold
  • RAM: 8GB
