Do radeon r5 230 cards need a fan?

(there was nothing in the box nor anything I saw in the documentation .. would like to be sure)

I was given this card by the store to replace Radeon x1300 and I've lost my audio

No, they do not generate enough heat to warrant a fan-cooled solution. The passive heatsink is enough.

Are you sure that you have absolutely no audio output (speaker icon in taskbar has an X through it)? Your system sound may be redirected to HDMI audio.

In Windows, right click on the speaker icon in the taskbar, select Playback devices, and verify that the default sound device is not an "AMD High Definition Audio Device". Find the Speaker or Headphones device (likely a non-AMD High Definition Audio Device), right click on it, and select "Set as Default Device". Right click the device again and select Test, then verify that you hear the jingles through both channels of your speakers/headphones. If you hear the jingles, then your audio is fine.
