My external monitor that supports 2560 by 1600 resolution only goes to 1600 by 900 with my laptop that has FirePro W5170M on it. I need it to connect to my laptop and go to the full resolution of 2560 by 1600.
I have a laptop: Dell Precision 7710 with Windows 7 Enterprise edition, 32GM RAM, 64 bit OS.
This laptop has the AMD FirePro W5170M display adapter with driver version 15.201.2501.0.
This is a work laptop so I will not be able to upgrade the AMD display driver to a newer version. I will also not be able to upgrade to Windows 10.
I have an HP LP3065 type "TFT LCD" 30" monitor that has only 3 connectors and they are of type DVI-D. Here is the specification pdf for this monitor.
The laptop has an HDMI connector, so I purchased a new HDMI to DVI-D Dual Link cable. The monitor requires the Dual Link specification for the cable. I made sure that I got the correct cable with Dual Link capability. Here is the link to the cable.
Using this cable, I am not able to use this HP monitor above 1600 by 900. The screen resolution section of Windows does not allow it to go above this resolution. The laptop itself can't go above 1600 by 900. Not sure if that makes any difference.
My desktop works fine with this monitor and goes up to 2560 by 1600. The graphics card on that machine is Nvidia GeForce GT 730.
This is a circa 2009 monitor, is this too old to work with this laptop? It's a great monitor, would hate to have to buy a new one.
Is there a way to get this monitor to get up to 2560 by 1600 with this laptop?
