Freesync Flicker

I have an R9 Fury and a recently purchased Acer XG270HU to go along with it. The monitor will do 144hz when doing the UFO test without issue. When gaming I often get a black screen for 1-3 seconds randomly until I quit playing(also does it on full screen youtube), it looks akin to switching inputs(I have auto switching turned off). When I turned freesync off (left monitor at 144hz) this issue goes away. My other monitor connected via DP-->DVI adapter stays on the whole time. If I put a small chunck of the game onto the other monitor, the game is still playing just fine when the Acer blacks out. I have tried 3 separate display port cables that Radeon Settings is listing as 5.1gbs x4.

I play everything at 1440P. Has happened with Mech Warrior Online, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Resident Evil 7. Haven't gotten to test others yet.

Is this still just an inherent problem with freesync? Any advice?
