rx 480 100% fan usage at random points

Question asked by adamd16 on Mar 7, 2017

Hi All,

Since owning and MSI rx 480 8GB edition the card has run almost perfectly however time to time the card will decide to go above the threshold I set the RPM speed to in Wattman. I've attached a picture showing the target / max 1500 RPM I would want the card to run it however it will jump beyond it and scale up to between 85-99% fan speed. I've reinstalled my OS several times and installed different versions of amd drivers from official site yet this problem continues to persist regardless if it's Windows 7 Home x64  or Windows 10 Home x64. If anyone has any suggests I'm open to idea's as currently I have to keep resetting the settings in wattman to bring the card back to normal fan speed.

upgradeable graphics card BIOS version - TV341MH.153

Planning on upgrading the BIOS and Driver for the RX 480 to see if the problem continues or not

Edit 2

Current graphics card BIOS version - TV341MH.153

Current graphics card driver 17.3.1

I'll stress test to see if the problem arises again

Edit 3

After several hours no issues so far with the fan speed / noise, the recent driver 17.3.1 update may have patched the issue I had in combination with BIOS update for my graphics card .
