    AMDGPU-Pro compatibility with 8530M?

    amivaleo

      Hi guys,

I use Gnome-Ubuntu 16.04 on an ASUS Vivobook laptop (model: S301LP-C1087H), which has an Intel GPU and a dedicated Radeon HD8530M GPU. The Radeon GPU model is also in the specs given by the manufacturer: https://www.asus.com/Notebooks/ASUS_VivoBook_S301LP/specifications/

On your site ( http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMDGPU-PRO-Driver-for-Linux-Release-Notes.aspx ), I read that my GPU is compatible with the driver AMDGPU-Pro version 16.60.

I downloaded it, I installed it as the guide says, but after the reboot my laptop doesn't load any graphical interface. It keeps showing several command lines in fullscreen.

      My Linux kernel is 4.8.0-36-generic.

Do you have any idea about the reason for this malfunction? Is it a bug of the driver? Do I forget something?

      Help me please...

can you show me the contents of /var/log/Xorg.0.log?

            I also have a Xorg.1.log, Xorg.0.log.old and Xorg.1.log.old.
Let me know if you need any of them.

            Thank you.

              jpsollie

there seem to be some configurations of the ati driver left.  What I would do is: move /etc/Xorg.conf to Xorg.bak and retry...

maybe the Xorg server finds out by itself what the right config for your system is.
