    AMD video stuck in update loop - installs 16.12.2 reboots and says 16.9.2 is installed & needs update

      AMD Graphics Card: ARX9 270X 2GBD5-PPHDE

      Desktop: Home Grown

      Operating System: Windows 8.1

      Driver version installed: 16.12.2

      Display Devices: SamSung S27D590, HDMI connection, Standard/Default refresh rate

      Motherboard: M5A99X EVO R2.0

      CPU/APU: AMD FX 8-core FX8350

      Power Supply: Corsair CTX750M

      RAM: 16GB

       

      The radon software installed the current 16.12.2 for my video card R9 270X - 16.9.2 version is NOT even on the computer.

      Then after rebooting and installing completely, it says I have an update for 16.12.2 and that 16.9.2 is the version currently installed.

      This is NOT the first time or occurrence. This will be like the 4th or 5th time.

      I even uninstalled ALL AMD drivers/software, deleted the folders and reinstalled using the AUTO-DETECT feature/software. Download Drivers < This page.

      I now have frame lag - FPS delay, Some games lock up or freeze and require shutting down the computer with a cold boot start. Even task manager hangs or freezes during these times.

          1..Delete C:\AMD folder

          2.Uninstall all AMD software and clean your system in safe mode by DDU program and install 17.2.1 driver Windows 8.1 (32-bit | 64-bit)

              You have sound advice. I am not sure it applies.

              Here is a rundown of the steps I took to try to alleviate the issue this time.

              Up until now I did not look at the report for the reason for failure to install. I did not think of it until step 6.

               

              1. Tried to install the Optional 17.2.1

              1a.Got a 1603 error code

               

              2. Ran the recommended "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" and the  "SFC /SCANNOW"

              2a. completed SFC reported some error that were fixed

               

              3. Reinstalled the Optional 17.2.1

              1a.Got the same 1603 error code

               

              4. Raqn the AMD Clean Unistall Program.

              4a. Complete no errors reported. Had to manually delete the C:\AMD folder

               

              5. Installed, (Windows Update), Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. Graphics Adapter WDDM1.3 Amd Radeon R9 200 series - rebooted manually.

              5a. No noticeable difference in Display, (displayed results).

               

              6. Installed non-whql-win8.1-64bit-radeon-software-crimson-relive-17.2.1-feb10.exe

              6a. Failed on: HDMI Audio Driver

              Final Status: Fail

              Size: 1 Mbytes

               

              Why would an audio driver cause a fail?

              Is my card failing?

              Everything else appears to have installed correctly.

              Greetings redfury,

               

              Forgive me for not getting back sooner. 

              It seems/appears that the what I did on Feb 19, 2017 11:32 PM, seems to have eliminated the video and update loop issue.

              Other than the fail for the HDMI Audio Driver fail, I can live with that. I have to believe that the fail is from my monitor not having an audio system.

              I would like to leave things as they are since the AMD drivers update 17.2.1 works and no longer loops to ask for an update.

              Now when I click the "Check for Updates" button, the returned info states: "Your Radeon Software is up to date."
