How to downclock factory set overclock

Since the launch of BF1 i have been having the dreaded DirectX error "device has been physically removed or a driver update has occurred" something along those lines i can't remember the whole error, i have tried every "fix" out there apart from downclocking my Sapphire R9 390 Nitro 8GB, i have heard that it has fixed some peoples errors and was wondering how to go about this properly.

My current core clock speed is 1040MHz which i believe is a small factory overclock from it's normal speed, with Battlefield 1 having it's next patch sometime next month i would rather have a go at trying this method instead of waiting for a patch that might not even have a fix for the issue.
