    290x driver version 17 - error 175 unsupported hardware

    frobinrobin

      System:

      • MSI AMD r9 290x
      • Custom desktop (Asus maximus 6 Hero and i7 4770k, 16GB RAM)
      • Windows 7 64bit
      • AMD Driver update software says I currently have driver 16.40.3211
      • DELL U3011 2560x1600 @60hz display port > KVM switch > display port
      • Corsair PSU 650w? I forget and it's not easily accessible but it's more than sufficient.

I have an r9 290x, I would like to install the latest version 17 drivers but it always says "error 175 - unsupported hardware"!

I've used uninstall software to completely remove the v16 drivers but whenever I try to install v17 drivers I get the same error.

At one point I couldn't even install 16.11 or 16.12 drivers - I had to install 16.7.2 and then update them.... currently the drivers are at 16.40.3211.

I'm on windows 7 - but windows update is severely broken! (just hangs) I've attempted various standalone windows updates so I'm not that badly out of date.

I'm very computer literate but I'm just having the worst time upgrading to AMD v17+ drivers due to this error message - the AMD software pops up and says I can upgrade but then won't allow it stating incorrect hardware??

Your help would be much appreciated!
