    Radeon R7 M260/M265 on Ubuntu 16.04

I have a HP Pavillion laptop which I purchased in June 2015. It has the Radeon R7 M260/M265 graphics card.
I Initially installed Ubuntu 14.04 OpenStudio, which used the fglrx driver. I had no problems for over a year.
I upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04 which uses the radeon or amdgpu open source drivers, neither of which works with my graphics card.
So currently I have no driver for my graphics card using the 16.04 Long Term Support version of Ubuntu.

What should I do? The only solution being offered on Ubuntu forums is for me to reinstall Ubuntu 14.04?
I know I am not the only ubuntu user with this graphics card in this predicament.
Shouldn't the manufacturer have some duty of support?
