rx 480 - blue screen crashes - help?

    sillycatnip

Computer specs below - two PC builds - same problem in each setup

      Summary:

      • Installed a new rx 480 8gb into setup 2 (specs below) and after 5 minutes of gaming (overwatch), screen turns blue and a buzzing (system error speaker) is froze.
      • checked drivers: latest driver 12/04/16 - 21.19.384 - update driver infor from AMD and windows both show driver is up todate
        • installed latest window drivers, swapped out hard drive, reinstalled over watch - same issue.
        • Reset windows, clean install - did not plug in graphics card, using onboard graphics. All updates installed fresh for motherboard (asrock) and windows. As soon as updates were completed installed rx 480 and downloaded drivers.
        • System seemed stable. downloaded overwatch fromn battlenet and in 10 minutes same issue. Blue screen freeze, unable to restart, alt tab, etc. completely froze system. Disabled 480 and switched to onboard GPU - system runs fine minus horrendous FPS. Other games, league of legends, torchlight 2, divinity 2, etc all work fine with onboard GPU but blue screen once rx 480 is activated.

Installed rx480 in setup 1 (specs below) with dual monitor setup instead of single. Download drivers to latest batch and instantly one screen is blank and green while secondary monitor is froze on the blue screen.

System crashes within 5-10 minutes after being powered on without running a game. This system uses an nvidia 1070 for 2 months without issues, zero crashing.

Does anyone have any thoughts on a fix?

Unfortunately, I bought this rx480 for my niece for Christmas from a black Friday sale, so we are past the usual 30-day return period from the merchant. If possible I am hoping for an easy fix to avoid having to try to rma it through AMD. We did not test these parts until after Christmas so we can build her rig together (her 1st build). When working, the graphics were great, but we can't get the systems stable for longer than 5 minutes of game time before we get a blue screen (no error message).

      1st setup:

This setup normally a runs an nvidia 1070 without issues. when new AMD rx 480 arrived and had issued in other build, changed to this rig for a new setup and replicated errors
