Hi everybody !

I was exited at the discovery, yesterday, that the "new open source Linux driver architecture" that I read about in the past, was now available and named AMDGPU, for Linux kernels 4.2 and newer - so, not for my Debian 8.

I then installed a new Ubuntu 16.04.1, my softs, Steam, AMDGPU driver, and GRID Autosport.

I always have less problems, on everything, even for playing games, on Debian than on Ubuntu - but here the 3.16 Kernel was too old so I decided to use the same Linux OS than everybody does, in order to minimize the amount of problems that I'm likely to encounter because of a "different configuration".

It was running 1 or 2 FPS on Linux with previous AMD drivers on Debian, but completely fine on Windows with the same card, and completely fine on Linux and Windows with an NVidia almost equivalent card (GTX 950)

Finally I don't know if the issue is known, so here it is ! Results :

  • Crappy colors during loading (purple in the place of black), less than 1 FPS for the firsts few images into the main menu, and freeze (then Ctrl + Alt + F1 is then giving a blinking cursor, and even Ctrl+Alt+Suppr doesn't work)... disappointing, it doesn't work ! It's a little bit worst than with the Radeon Crimson Linux drivers from 2015 december (it was not running well but it was still possible to start a circuit before it crashes)

I had a second problem running GPU test (Furmark, windowed) :

  • With a little Window (just wide enough to read the FPS value), at ~220 FPS the system was suddenly frozen while I tried to start Steam (is it because of steam's start ? I will re-try that)

And, finally, a little last one (almost not a problem, it's just to inform)

  • The card is seen as HD8800 Series instead of Radeon R9 270X, by Steam and GPU Test

Anyway, the tests that I'm doing here are really easy to reproduce, so I hope it can help developers to know it, and then solve it (or people telling me if I'm the only one !)

Because it's one of the few games available on Linux, I will be trying Goat Simulator as soon as it's downloaded, and keep you informed.

Also, if you need me to test this card and Driver on a more powerful computer (like FX9590), I can, but only if it has any interest (I'm not sure it has).
