driver installation amdgpu-pro on ubuntu 16.04.1 fails

After the installation of the amdgpu-pro driver on Ubuntu 16.04.1 I cannot login to the desktop after reboot.

The graphic card is an ATI FirePro V5800 (FireGL).

I followed exactly the instructions of How-To Install/Uninstall AMD Radeon™ Software AMDGPU-PRO Driver for Linux® on an Ubuntu System

      No error occured during installaton.

      The driver is amdgpu-pro-16.50.362463.

The command dpkg -l amdgpu-pro after installation shows

ii     amdgpu-pro     16.50-362463     amd64     Meta package to install amdgpu Pr

      Any help is highly appreciated!

I wish I had seen your question before. First of all, have a look at supported models here: Linux Download Center

If your card is supported, you can follow what I did below.

          1) In GRUB menu, when the "Ubuntu" row is highlighted, you press "E" on your keyboard. It will open some booting command.
          2) Look for "quiet splash". If you saw the word "nomodeset" right before that "quiet splash", just delete all that "nomodeset".

          3) Press F10 to boot Ubuntu. Hopefully you can see your desktop.
