Issue with XF240H monitor and 144hz

Question asked by timtimmytimtim on Dec 7, 2016

I recently purchased the XF240H for the 144hz to use in FPS gaming. Using the displayport cable, I am only able to get up to 120hz (right click desktop > screen resolution > advanced settings > monitor > refresh rate). Is there anyone able to help me? I tried using CRU to change it to 144hz but then the monitor goes haywire, starts flickering on and off, making popping noises, etc...

My specs as follows:

Operating System

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1

Intel Core i5 4590 @ 3.30GHz 32 °C Haswell 22nm Technology

16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz (9-9-9-24)

MSI Z97A GAMING 7 (MS-7916) (SOCKET 0) 32 °C

4096MB ATI AMD Radeon R9 200 Series (Sapphire/PCPartner) 35 °C

465GB Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB ATA Device (SSD) 29 °C

EDIT: I'd also like to mention that at first I thought the DP cable that came with monitor was faulty, so I bought a different cable. Same thing. Then I thought it's the monitor itself so I asked for a replacement. Same thing is happening. Does that mean something is wrong with my GPU? Or something else?
