why does screen rotation revert when I close Catalyst Control Center?

Question asked by livendive on Oct 15, 2016

My laptop is a ProBook 4545S, which came with a Radeon HD 7420G.  For the second time in as many months, I somehow accidentally flipped the display, this time twice, so it's in portrait mode with the top on the left side of the screen.  Drivers are up to date, rotation options in Windows 10 are greyed out.  In Control Center, I can clumsily (everything being 90 degrees off) get the rotation back to landscape, however as soon as I close Control Center or try to open any other program, the rotation reverts to portrait.  This happened a couple of months ago with landscape flipped instead of portrait, and I was eventually able to find a solution.  However this time Google is not helping keeps pointing me to ctrl-alt-arrow keys which are disabled.  Of course this makes it even more frustrating as I don't know how I flipped the thing in the first's just a plain old laptop, not a 2-in-1, so what flips it without hotkeys?
