How do I remove the older Microsoft driver and replace in with the current ATI driver?

Hi there,
I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64 and have an ATI X800XL.
I've been trying to install the most current ATI driver which is 10-2_legacy_vista32-64_wdm.exe ( 2/24/2010 )
over the Microsoft version of the driver which is older - 2009 and a few version numbers back,
but it's not working.

I've run the installer - 10-2_legacy_vista32-64_wdm.exe and it runs fine, but no prompt to reboot and the driver doesn't get updated.
I've removed the older Microsoft version and then attempted to install the newer ATI but no luck there either.

I've attempted to "Update Driver" but once again Windows determines the older MSFT version is the best one.

If I knew where the *.inf file was located for the newer 10-2_legacy_vista32-64_wdm.exe maybe I could browse to that,
or if I could find a manual installation or an unpacked .exe ...
I don't know ... I'm just guessing at this point.

Can some one point me in the right direction?

Thank you!
