rx-460 crashes constantly, even on settings that i used in games on my r7-250 cape verde card that has almost half as many shaders!  WHY?

I installed linux mint 18 sarah mate versioon and installed the amdgpu-pro for ubuntu which is for linuxmint also.  After 10-15 minutes of playing firewatch the game crashes my entire system and i have to reboot.  What's the point of that?  That's the card failing.
