RX 480 fan speed to high?

    thorgraves

I have a XFX rx 480 GTR Black edition and run an Freesync-Monitor at 3440x1440. The Wattman-defaults (and so's my settings) are as follows: Fanspeed at 760-3000rpm. Target temprature is set 70 degres Celsius. Max temprature at 90 degrees.

After playing games (especially "Mech Warior Online" seems to provoke the behavior) the tempratures are usually at something like 74 and on clogin the game, they're dropping fast to 50-60 degrees, however the fan keeps on spinning at 3000+ rpm for 10-15 minutes afterwards (or until I reset Wattman).

Am I misunderstanding what target temprature means? I thought it was something along the lines of "as long as the temprature is below target, everything's fine, no need to cool it further down". So as long as the Temreatur is below  target, I would expect the fans to be quite silent, which they aren't. Can someone clue me in how to configure it correctly, or what could cause the behavior?

Yes that would be how it would be inteded to work is my understanding as long as the temp setting is set to manual and fan is set to automatic. If they aren't then that could be why.

If they are set as above It is possible that the manufacturer has adjusted the fan response time of the GPU bios, or there is a particular bug with the fan controller they are using.  Report the issue here giving the GPU make & model and GPU BIOS version and BIOS Part Number details from the Radeon Settings system / hardware page.
