Windows does not display applications correctly when TV is turned off (using remote desktop)

Question asked by pixelcowboy on Aug 11, 2016

I have an rx480. I use Chrome Remote Desktop, or TeamViewer, to log remotely on my machine. However, when the TV is turned off, the contents of windows do not display, and the resolution of some windows elements is broken. I had a similar problem with an Nvidia Card, but with that card I was at least able to open Chrome, and use my chromecast to turn on my tv, which restored proper resolution/rendering. However, with the rx480, Chrome doesn't even display so I can't use Chromecast. The only workaround that I have found is to go to device manager, disable the AMD display driver, and then the desktop renders properly, so I am able to launch chromecast (which turns on my TV), and then re-enable the AMD driver. Any ideas on how to fix this?
