Ubuntu 16.04 - Alienware 15 r2 - Intel i7/AMD R9 m395x - Ubuntu 16.04

Question asked by skinner345 on Aug 2, 2016

Hey All,

I am running dual graphics on my Alienware laptop. The primary integrated VGA controller is the Intel integrated and the discrete GPU is the AMD r9 m395x.

FGLRX drivers are working perfectly on Ubuntu 14.04 currently.

I have made several attempts to do a clean install of Ubuntu 16.04 and 16.04.1 with the new AMDGPU-Pro hybrid open source drivers, despite having compatible hardware.

When I do install the Pro drivers, they install without error, upon rebooting my machine I briefly see the Ubuntu logo and then it switches to a black screen with a single curser blinking in the top left corner. When i enable nomodeset in grub i can login, but nothing loads.

Any help would be appreciated, i have already asked on the Ubuntu forums and no one seems to have a clue.
