crimson update issue: multiple instances

I'm experiencing issues with the latest update for the crimson software. When I try to run it, I always get two identical messages that say:
Can't access installation manager engine. Make sure not to run multiple instances of installation manager (probably not exactly like that, I had to translate the message from german)

I already tried to deinstall the current version and clean install the new version but it led to a freeze mid-install everytime. I had to use a windows system recovery to make the current version of crimson run again.

I'm running Win10 x64 and have a HD7850.
Current Crimson version is 16.20.1025-160602a-303160E
new version would be 16.7.3
I do not use any third party antivirus, just Windows Defender.

Any ideas?
