I would like to do some casual streaming but my old 4100 just isn't up to it.
What would you recommend? Currently using a 990fx board with r9 280 and 16 gig ram.
Well that depends upon how much you want to spend. Normally I recommend an FX-8350, it offers great performance and a good price. The FX-9590 is a faster chip, but a lot of motherboards don't support it's obscenely high power draw. If your mobo supports it and you don't mind the 200 watt TDP go for it. Of course the FX-6300 is a great chip if you're on a tight budget, but it might not be ideal for streaming.
on budget: FX-8300 (http://geizhals.de/amd-fx-8300-fd8300wmhkbox-a1156019.html) 125€ + 45€ for a new mid-range cooler like Scythe Fuma (SCGM-1000)
on budget with WraithCooler: FX-8350 (http://geizhals.de/amd-fx-8350-fd8350frhkhbx-a1441914.html) -> no need for a new cooler 180€
HighEnd: FX-9590 (http://geizhals.de/amd-fx-9590-fd9590fhhkwof-a973468.html) -> 210€ + 100€ AiO-Watercooling or good Air-cooler like Thermalright SilverArrow-Extreme
ps if u stream use OBS VCE fork from Jackun -> so you use your GPU instead of CPU for Streaming-Magic (https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/obs-branch-with-amd-vce-support.13996/)
thank you for answering my question.
For something right now FX-6300 is the most money I would spend before Zen comes out.
The FX-8300 is only $20 more though and those extra couple of cores can come in handy when streaming.
