Do you have an old spare drive you could install windows 7 on maybe to do some tests ? Then install the win7 version drivers and see if the problem persists on that install which helps to narrow it down ? I know its a pain installing windows but win7 now has a convenience rollup so no need to wait hours to download all those updates.
Don't forget to maybe use ddu.exe to clean out any current installed version of the drivers before reverting to the older ones. Go back to the version you know was last working stable.
