FirePro v4900, cannot change resolution, driver? dead?

Question asked by jd123 on Jun 6, 2016

I have a v4900 FirePro card & unsure whether it is working or the driver is installed. I just installed a new system, Linux Mint KDE. I did not manually install the driver. The system was fine but flickered some fireworks at boot, now my graphics output is very low resolution & no audio. I attempted to install the driver but got an error that it was already installed, though the software does not appear in the menu. Can I test the card with any Linux utility? The system settings item for drivers shows a check by 'use manually installed driver'. It will not allow me to check another box. I was previously using xserver driver which is recommended.  I'm afraid my card died.
