How do I set up my R9 280X to drive my new ultrawide monitor

I've recently upgraded my monitor to an LG ultrawide model that sports a native resolution of 2560x1080.

My XFX R9 208X has two DVI ports on it. When I initially connected the monitor, the maximum display resolution supported by Windows was 1920x1080.

After poking around a little, updating drivers, rebooting, etc. The maximum resolution magically changed to 2560x1440. While this is better, It's still kind of blurry. There are no (obvious?) steps between these two resolutions.

What's the right way to go in order to drive this monitor properly?  Should I use the custom resolution settings?  (If so, how do I determine the correct timings?)

I've seen a post that suggest using a patcher to fix the pixel clock (AMD/ATI Pixel Clock Patcher) , but I'm a little leery of this also.

Thanks!
