I autodetected a driver for the Radeon Graphics HD 6370M. During the installation the screen turned black. When I looked very well I saw something on the black screen. But the screen stayed black, even after rebooting.
The HD6xxx series has reached peak optimisation and been moved to legacy status, there will not be any further driver updates for your product. More information available here.
The latest Crimson driver for your system is 16.2.1 and is available here.
The last Catalyst driver for your system is 15.11.1 Beta and is available here.
I would recommend using DDU to sweep your system of AMD drivers, and then trying the drivers above to see if they resolve your issue.
Like I wrote it is the HD 6370M. NOT the HD 5000 series, but the HD 6xxxM series. The driver was found by Autodetect. It gave the right name for the videocard, processor and the Windows version.
The old driver I had was version 8.783.0.0 from 5 - 10 - 2010.
When I boot in Save Mode and choose properties, driver, edit (or renew?; don't know. I use the Dutch version of Windows), the old version of the Radeon driver is installed again.
The last thing I meant is where Windows is looking for new drivers on the Internet or your computer. But like I said it finds the old one.
I've corrected my post above, but the same still applies.
Looking at the date it is rather new (2015). But what is the difference with the one Autodetect finds?
The problem is still the same. A black screen during the installation. It stays black, also when I reboot. When I let Windows look for a new version from the Internet or my computer, in Save Mode, it always finds the old one, version 8.783.0.0.
After reinstalling the old driver I cannot open Catalyst Control Center. I get the following message:
AMD Catalyst Control Center cannot start. There are no properties to configurate with AMD CCC at this moment.
Do I have to install the old version? If yes, where can I find it?
That is a very old driver. If you want to use that driver again you'll need to use Windows System Restore or Device Manager to roll back the driver.
What is the difference between Crimson and Catalyst?
I used DDU. But after every install of both drivers (Crimson and Catalyst), I still get a black screen. This time it happens after reboot, instead of during the installation.
Understood. I think you might need to try a clean installation of Windows as the next troubleshooting step.
