I have the HyperX Cloud 2 Pro with the USB 7.1 dongle. I love it. I find it comfy (2 types of ear cups pleather vs velour for choice) and great sound. I wear glasses & these are one set of over-ears that don't clamp the arms of my specs to my temples. Great build quality too with the aluminium frame.
If I end up gaming more, I might look into a headset. At the moment I use a pair of Sony MDR-7506 Studio Monitoring headphones and a separate mic into a digital interface. I love the sound quality of the headphones but the convenience of a headset might be nice.
So I have a bad habit of breaking my headphones within a year of getting them. so I have switched up my strategy from buying a single high end product to buying cheaper cans and adding a mod mic and it makes my life much easier, The Mic always survives and Cheap headphones are in my experience way better than cheap headsets. My current setup is
- a $16 pair of monoprice headphones. Solid, but not crazy high quality. The clamping force is a little high but build quality and sound is shockingly good for the price.
- An Antlion ModMic ($50) which is a little pricey but I like the magnet connector and it is very unlikely to break.
- My Motherboard does virtual Surround Sound so I don't need a dongle but there are a number of cheap ones out there that have some good reviews on amazon
I looked at the Cloud II and overall it was just an impressive headset in all categories. The frequency range, impedance, even the cable being braided, plus the solid design made me go for it. Thank you for all your feedback.
