Screen crashes when changing memory clock

Question asked by enzymex on Mar 10, 2016

Describe your system:

  • AMD Graphics Card
    • MSI R9 280X
  • Desktop or Laptop System
    • Desktop
  • Operating System
    • Windows 7 64-bit
  • Driver version installed
    • 16.3
  • Display Devices
    • BenQ XL2411Z, DVI-D, 1920x1080 @ 144hz
  • Motherboard
    • MSI Z87-G45 Gaming
    • Intel i5 4670k
  • Power Supply Unit  Make, Model & Wattage
    • Cooler Master V650S 650W
  • RAM
    • 8GB @ 1600 MHz

Describe your issue:

  • Whenever I watch a video with my memory clock anything other than 1500 MHz, my screen crashes (img: Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet ). When my memory clock is at 1500 MHz, everything is fine. When my screen crashes, there are 2 things I can do. 1 is to refresh the page a few times and sometimes it stops the crash and sometimes my entire screen goes white. What always works is putting my PC in sleep mode and waking it up again after it has crashed. When I play the video again after I did this, it still crashes. It happens with Youtube videos and other general video sites like those "funny video sites" for example. One site where it never happened before it Twitch.

I hope someone here can help me since I've tried a few technical forums before and nobody had an answer to this problem. While it's possible to just switch profiles in MSI Afterburner for when I'm watching videos and playing games, it would be nice to just have it work without doing that.

Thank you in advance.
