Yes I have alredy the latest display drivers of both GPU.
My system :
- AMD R9 M290x (now detected as HD8970m)
- Alienware 17 R1
- Windows 10 64bit
- Radeon Crimson Software Version 15.12
- Driver Packaging Version 15.30.1025.1001-151204a-296874C
- CPU Type Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4910MQ 2.90GHz oc to 3.6GHz
- System Memory 16 GB
I would recommend updating to the latest Crimson 16.1.1 drivers.
What makes you think the GPU is awake? Enduro should be active and the GPU should be sleeping depending on the settings you are using in Windows Power Settings and CCC Slim.
The Autodetect utility shows me the 15.12 as latest version, i can't find the 16.1.1.
I notice that the GPU is running by touching the dedicated heatsink, it is always hot since i upgraded to Win10, and the battery lasts a lot less in power saving or balance mode.
Thank you for the support.
You can download the latest Crimson 16.1.1 Hotfix driver for your system here. Please uninstall your current drivers and update to 16.1.1.
You also need to make sure you have the latest Intel HD drivers installed, otherwise the AMD GPU might be used instead. Please consult with Intel for support with this.
Once you have installed the drivers, please verify the following settings are configured correctly in Radeon Settings > Preferences > Additional Settings > CCC Slim > Power
Powerplay: Plugged in Maximise Performance
PowerPlay: Battery Maximise Battery Life
Ensure the slider to Maximise Battery Life is fully pushed to the right.
Under Switchable Graphics Settings:
Battery: Optimise power savings
Plugged in: Optimise performance
Click the Switchable Graphics Application Monitor tab below. Click start monitoring. Use your laptop, browse the web etc. It should show you with GPU is being used for what application you are running. Once you are happy, stop monitoring.
Okay, thanks for the update.
I would recommend uninstalling those drivers and trying the latest AMD drivers provided by by your OEM Alienware/Dell. They should be available on their support website. If you cannot find them, you can try Catalyst 15.11.1 Beta here.
