dual boot R9 380X problem

Question asked by gverisa on Jan 25, 2016

I recently got an R9 380x from Newegg and installed it on a dual boot (Ubuntu 14.04 and Windows 10) box. It works great in Windows (for gaming), but my screen keeps freezing on Ubuntu; then I have to restart my computer. When I say my screen freezes, I mean this: everything (my mouse included) will be frozen on the screen for 2 seconds, then the screen goes black, and then the screen goes back to my desktop where the only thing not frozen is the mouse. When I go to the alternate desktop sessions in Ubuntu (i.e. the non-gui ones) by pressing alt-f2, I get a stream of messages and I cannot type anything into the console. These are the messages:

Do I need to get a new card? Should I try to somehow update the drivers? Should I have the Ubuntu or the Windows drivers installed on the graphics card? If I have the Ubuntu drivers installed, will Windows not work?
