AMD R9 290x black screen after update

Question asked by rortiz53 on Jan 17, 2016

I don't know why mods deleted my previous question?

I've had my r9 290 for a while, and it's ok until it comes time to update. I haven't updated it since I got it because of this one issue. When I update the driver, my monitor goes completely black, however I can still hear anything that may have been running prior to the screen going black. I've been playing games that didn't really need that good of a driver, but now I am. My fps has been astonishingly low. I've spent roughly around $1300 on this computer. The only problem is updating the graphics card. I know that will be the solution to my fps problems. I can see that other people have had the same issue with this card as well.

My specs:

Operating System

            Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit

            Intel Core i5 4570 @ 3.20GHz    35 °C

            Haswell 22nm Technology

            8.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (9-10-9-26)

            Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. B85M-DS3H (SOCKET 0)    28 °C

            2269W (1920x1080@60Hz)

            4096MB ATI AMD Radeon R9 200 Series (XFX Pine Group)    37 °C

            931GB Western Digital WDC WD10EZEX-00BN5A0 (SATA)    24 °C

        Optical Drives

            TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-224DB

            Realtek High Definition Audio

        Power Supply

            Thermaltake 850W Bronze Supply

The game I'm trying to play is Blade and Soul. I get around 30 fps on max graphics, nothing changes when I set it any lower either. The game should be looking and performing a lot better than it does.
