AMD is getting rid of the socket insanity and will now offer both APU and CPU all on socket AM4.

The new CPU cooler for the box retail market is bigger than the old one with a larger fan to overcome the howling the old OEM fan was notorious for.

  The larger fan should solve a lot of problems with heat buildup. Obviously this will mean DDR4 sticks will have to be sightly farther away from the CPU. DDR4 uses less power so I am not worried about the vanity of heat spreaders.
  
  I already know that X8 will be the top desktop CPU, which should be enough to run Windows 10 etc
  
  Mobile is hobbled by the way windows is built, .NET is much higher overhead and thus it uses more power. Batteries have not kept up.

Really, "one socket to rule them all"!

This would be a major shakeup in the industry.
How are the motherboard manufacturers taking this??
